The project Manuscripta Vergiliana started in 2008 at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, as the result of a collaboration between the research group led by Prof. G.B. Conte and the Laboratory of Computer Sciences for Ancient Languages (LILA).

In 2015, the project continued/developed thanks to an agreement between the Scuola Normale, the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung and the University of Leipzig.

The website originates from the ideas and work of Silvia Ottaviano (University of Leipzig), who has also designed its structure and coordinated the activity of the contributors.

Lorenza Bennardo (University of Toronto) has authored the sections “Ancient Sources” (with Silvia Ottaviano) and “Glossary of terms used in Philology, Palaeography and Codicology”, translated the website contents into English and contributed to the general revision and editing.

The English version has been revised by Janneka Janzen and Melanie Rockenhaus.
